Lost a son to drugs 18 months ago. The gestures that meant the most to me were those folks who sought me out in a private setting, and we just talked. About my son, the weather, crops, religion, supper, but most of all about life itself. Most people do not know how to approach the grieving family, but my lifelong friends just found me and we talked. It really helped me cope. Those talks from friends meant more than the family members who attended services, mumbled their regrets, and tried to cheer me up. Attend the services ( if possible ), wait some days, then go sit and talk. Make another trip after coupla months. The words will come to you, and they will be thankful.
