When Section 179 passed it caused our land values to triple overnight as outside money from Athletes, actors, media, and high tech could buy farmland put in a permanent crop and instead of depreciating that $10,000 to $12,000 per acre planting cost over the life of the crop (20-40 years) they were able to use that tax advantage to offset the millions in income they were pulling in that year.
