I  have an HP P2035 which has been a work horse printer for 10 or 15 years. Just a solid, laser, b&w, high volume, hard-wired printer, good for checks and envelopes as well as 8.5x11 std paper. 

But need something to scan, fax and which can wirelessly print from phone or tablet or wifi from any device.  Then bought a Brother MFC L2740DW laser a couple years ago and that fits those needs well.  I would not want to high volume print on the Brother but works well for other uses. 

For color I've found I can email an image to the local print shop in town. For $1.25 they'll have a nice color laser 8.5x11 photo quality print ready for me to pickup by the time I drive into town. Or larger if I want a larger size color print.  Cheaper and much better quality than messing with color ink cartridges (usually dried up), photo paper, etc. etc.
