Illinois | We too filled up with 28% in September for less then $180/ton over $235 now. We buy and take delivery of bulk chemicals in August as well. We pay for seed as early as possible to take advantage of the early pays. There is one thing we don't cut cost on and that is seed corn or soybeans. We run on farm trials every year and we learned this is a place we don't like to cut cost. We are doing one thing different this year and we are picking up our dry fertilizer in our semis this spring, we are going to tender our strip-till machine ourselves for a pretty good savings. We were thinking about switching aerial application of our fungicide but we know we will get our stuff sprayed staying with who we have been with. $3.10/acre savings/acre made us really think hard, but the piece of mind having the fungicide applied timely is worth the extra money. | |
