I have some double hung windows. I got spring tension rods to hang curtains on so I wouldn't have to drill into the wood on the casings or the wall. They wouldn't hold a heavy curtain, but are fine for sheers. I would put maybe 3 curtains on the rod for a window like the one you showed, blocking more sun and offering privacy.
