Subject: RE: Renting or hiring excavator work

central - east central Minnesota -

tractormiallis - 1/20/2019 20:40 Would I be better off renting an excavator or hiring it out. Probably a couple days work ripping out brush lines, stumps, cleaning rock pile and junk up on overgrown property. Just figuring a hydrahoe might be 500 a day to rent. Never operated a hydrahoe, so might be better to just hire by the job or hour than rent..I'm not sure. Ideas..

For a couple days of work, in the off season - I'd likely hire it out. The main reason for this is 2 fold, cost to rent by day is most expensive, and to work with the excavator/operator and really get some clean up work completed. When you rent or work by yourself, it takes more then 2 days for a 2 day job, it's really a 4 day job. Sure you can return the machine and then clean up after, but, that's not always the most efficient, time wise or money wise.
If you had a week of work, then renting. Weekly rates are a better deal and monthly are better yet. Can really get something done on a weekly and / or monthly rate.
