Subject: RE: 2x2x2 opinions

Fayette Co, Iowa
It seems like around me Most BTO's don't run starter. They want to dump seed and plant 150 acres before stopping. I know there are big operators that DO run starter but a lot of them don't do to stopping every 40 ac to refill nitrogen or starter.. We are a "sto" run 2x2 have for many yrs. ran 10-34-0 and 6-24-6, and the past 6 years just straight 32% with thiosulfate.. 15 gallons per ac of nitrogen, 2.5 gallon an ac of thio.. Then side dress remainder at 4 to 6 inches tall. We added the 2x2 with john blue piston pump, and 500 gallon tank on a 1770nt 16 row.. Wasn't cheap. this was added on this planter in 2012 I believe for everything it was over 18,000.00 .. We were in the furrow.. But wanted to venture away with 5 GPA and put more fertilizer next to seed instead of right on it.
On a side note.. I would strongly think about a electric pump.. Not that ive had trouble with piston pump. But there are 2 farmers on the same set up as me and they love there electric fert pump. flip on the switch and see all the rows "squirting"..
