Central South Dakota
We are doing a lot of 1st year fields of beans here the last 5-7 years or so. Never grew beans before that. First year beans if you can get in the 30's to up against 30 we consider it a win. When we come back the next time around in rotation, we are seeing a 10 bu increase easily.

We had a 320 acre field we started farming together about 5 years ago when we got the other quarter in the half section. When planted it to beans for the first time 3 years ago and when we were harvesting that fall combining at an angle to the rows, the west quarter was 28-30bu beans and as soon as you hit the quarter line, the beans in the east 160 went to 40-42 bu/acre.

Couldn't figure it out, had the agronomist out riding the machine with us, he couldn't figure it out, same variety, all planted the same day, double innoculated. Anyways, did some digging and the previous owner had planted beans on that quarter about 9 years before we got it when he was experimenting with them. We had forgot about it because it wasn't our field at the time, but after rediscovering that info, it aligns with everything we have been seeing on virgin bean ground yields versus what we see for yield when we come back the second time in our rotation.
