Subject: RE: Selling the Carry and Bin ROI

west central MN

It hasn't been too hard to pick up at least 30 cents carry in the market the last few years and in Central MN it has also been fairly easy to gain 20 cents in the basis. If you take out a CCC loan at cheap interest it will cost you less then 1 cent a month in interest. If you gain 50 cents  and pay 8 cents interest it is pretty easy money. The savings from having our own dryer will more then pay the handling charges of the in and out costs of the grain. We are also in an area that I would need to have about 4 truck drivers instead of 1 to sit in line at an elevator instead of going to the bin site and dumping a trunk in about 5 minutes. My son build a bin last year and his payment is about 20 cents a bushel. If you take both the interest and bin payment he will still have an extra 20 cents plus a bin that is paid for in 7 years. Adding that extra 30 to 50 cents a bushel can make a huge difference when margins are tight.
