Coup,
Is there not a straw market where you’re at? Last year I just windrowed my straw and sold it for $40/ton to someone who came and baked it, got almost 2 ton an acre. What’s the benefit of using a stripper head vs a Draper head and just clipping the wheat heads off and leaving the straw standing?
Won't sell straw no matter the price. .
-Sell straw: $80/ac
-Seed oats at 80 lb/ac: $12/ac seed cost.
-Cost to plant oats will depend on planting method
-Can sell the oats for hay or let them winter kill for the residue.
Need to put value on loss of OM and that value it has to keep soil livestock happy plus fertilizer value of straw. If didn't plant double crop beans would do like did years ago and frost seed red clover into wheat and let something gorw that would provide N for following corn crop.
failing to convert sunshine into OM and biological activity after wheat is poor management by me..
