Subject: Dowdy - corn yield drag due to Herbicide??

Northern Iowa
Dowdy said in a video I watched that spraying herbicide at the wrong time can greatly affect yield. In his opinion it could take 30-50 bu off. It didn't sound like he was referring to off label app that gets real late either. Is he talking about V5 when girth is determined? It makes sense that the plant has to metabolize the herbicide and that could cause some stress I suppose.

What stage of corn plant do you think he is talking about?
How could you fix this?
Would a 1 pass pre or a strong pre with layered residuals post help to reduce this stress he is referring to?
thanks
