You have to be the judge of the improvement potential, if there is any. If you are getting even emergence and your ear size is pretty consistent than it will gainnyou very little. If the cause of smaller ears is emergence issues then vsets wont help, but if smaller ears are cause by misplaced seeds then you could probably pickup a few bushels.
