John, "here" its really not number of bushels you have its more flexibility too ship to different locations, end users...For terminals (Sarnia,Windsor) the broker has some flexibility and can help if you are a reasonably loyal customer....For forward contracts or delivery if you tell your buyer " I would like to get $xx" sometimes he can push the bids some......Now here elevators have posted elevator bids but off farm truck loads have special bid......Getting better basis is like getting a better interest rate at the bank ,you have to ask.....yrs. ago I seen what my bank was advertising mortgages for at open houses and it was 1/2% less than "posted rate" , so I asked "what's up" ,oh we can give you that rate, you just never asked...acc't managers can easliy slash mortgae rates 1/2-3/4 % and can also give more on GIC 's if pushed---hope winter has been good for you John
