| Trump himself won't know what he's decided until five minutes before the deadline. Then it will depend entirely what his "gut" tells him and that will depend on how many Big Mac's he's eaten. And what happens if Laura or Sean goes on TV and insists that trump stay tough on China?
I'm sorry, but I've been monitoring ship traffic out of the PNW at intervals the past few days and there is no good evidence that a whole lot of beans are going to China, Lots of bulk carriers going to Japan and Korea but none specifically to China. There are two ships headed out to "port not recognized" but who knows what that means?
I don't mean to be overly alarmist but there's a good possibility that the Chinese are comfortable with not actually taking delivery of the beans they've supposedly bought. For example, last by May the Chinese had orders for 1.5 MMT which they didn't cancel until much later. A sale to China under these circumstances doesn't really mean all that much. It's deliveries that count. | |
