Southeast Colorado | That would actually make transitioning to cover crops on your crop acres easier. We've played around with this stuff a little through the last decade and adding the cattle definitely helps justify the system due to creating income to help cover some of your costs. The trick in adding cattle to crop acres though is to not over graze and leave quite a bit of plant material out there for residue. If you've got nearby grass with cattle already there than perhaps you can just add more livestock and bounce back and forth to achieve a perfect stocking rate. I think you're in an ideal situation. | |
