What size is the welder and compressor? Got an idea what gauge the wire is from the breaker box to your outlet....and the distance? What's the size of the breaker that it's on? You may have enough service to run both at the same time. Sure doesn't hurt to check the easy route first.

7 1/2 horse air compressor. Welder is an Esab mig. 215. Currently on a 50 amp breaker.

Yeah, I see a lot of plugging and unplugging in your future. Cheaper to run a new service with 4 gauge wire on a 100 amp breaker than go with a switch. Besides, when you add the plasma cutter (if you haven’t already) you’ll need better service anyways.
