Glasgow, Ky
To elaborate on my previous post with the 70's came the biggest change to me, the availability and use of CREDIT. Until then credit was avoided like the plague. Previously, most farmers had lived through the depression. Back then most who owed much money lost everything. Thus, the fear of debt. In addition, borrowing money from a bank was very hard. Then came the 70's and PCA!!!
They loaned money like passing out candy and encouraged farmers to spend, spend, spend. The new generation of farmers obliged them with the government encouraged farmers to plant fencerow to fencerow. There was a waiting list for new tractors etc and many were trading each year. Life was good. Sound familiar?
Then the wheels fell off. High interest rates, grain embargo etc and things came to a grinding halt. Land prices plummeted, credit dried up.

As the saying goes, history has a way of repeating itself.
