Subject: RE: Starter fertilizer system

Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle

We have a pair of 300 gal saddle tanks mounted on the tractor, one for 10-34-0 in furrow and the other is 32% dribbled out back, 5 gal of each. 3gpm electric pumps with AgSpray pump drivers, then to a set of Redballs for each, then the infurrow goes out through the Ynot attachment on our Schaffert Rebounders, the 32% gets dribbled out behind the wheels with L&D dribble tubes. This is on a 6700 White. Set it up last year after having 2x2 on our other planter, very happy with the system. The only issue we had was doing beans in our high clay content the Ynot wanted to plug up, so we had to clean them out when we switched back to some corn. We may just pump some water through this year, might also run some tests with a in furrow bean starter our local guy recommends. He has some of his own test plots every year and doesn't recommend something unless its proven itself at least 2-3 years. Says the bean starter has never done worse than breaking even and hes been testing it for about 5 years, figure if were going to be pumping something through anyway, might as well get some good out of it.

Dad was on the fence with the Redballs because of the price, said he never needed them with the 2x2 system, but we were putting down 15 gal of product with it. They saved my butt when one of the orifices on the infurrow partially plugged, wouldve never noticed it without the Redballs.
