Richardson county Nebraska | There are different blends of asphalt, as they did hwy 75 several years ago the piled 2-3 acres 20ft deep on one of our farms, later hauling it off for different jobs. We to became friends with truck/loader operator, they quickly pointed out which loads we wanted as they let us have almost all we wanted. Oil content is the key, you don’t want any from shoulders or small roads(county/state). As before mentioned putting it down in summer very hot day best. We now use the area they piled it as my cattle pen in spring, after pulled from stalks, before grass. Areas are very inconsistent, some like concrete, others when you go to scrape manure it flakes off, then you have issues with spreading chunks of asphalt in your field with spreader. If doing a bunk line/hay pad I would really look at a textile/fabric mesh with lime or crushed rock. Then if you scrape some up and haul to fields, your just putting on lime. Know of a guy that built new lots with fly ash, thinking he’d figured out how to beat the mud, and it was free! Within two years he dug it all out as he was experiencing terrible foot issues with cattle |
