You might be better off depending on where in Iowa you are located. If you are reasonably close to Gilmore city, they used to make a limestone 3/8" with fines. Small lifts with water and a smooth face roller. Produced the densest aggregate base I have ever seen in all of the construction testing and inspection I have done. Boss at the time wouldn't even let me send out the results as he said there is no way it can be that dense without changing proctors he was wrong. As I took 2 samples to check my results.
