SC Wisconsin | I feed a fat additive, usually start in november and feed through to early spring. Like others said, deep bedded straw preferably long stem stuff not the chaff that comes out of a rotor combine. I also use jackets. If they are calling for high winds and below zero temps, i will also jam a bale in front of the door or the hutch but that is very rare to go to that extreme. I wouldnt group them up. Going from clean fresh air to a barn witb warm moist air and you could end up with problems. Make sure they have grain in front if them. Also you could give some 100 degree water in the middle of the day if you dont want to mix up milk. Cold dry air can really suck the moisture out of those little guys. I like it when we can get a few inches of fluffy snow before those long cold snaps, helps keep stuff insulated that way too. Looks like we are going to finally get a dose of winter up here this weekend too | |
