I bought some round bales of hay at an auction about a month ago. They looked like they were baled dry and line wrapped, then cut apart and hauled to the auction. 4 x 5 bales averaging 1000 lbs each.

With the warm weather the past couple of weeks I noticed the outside few inches of some bales are starting to turn to silage. Is this normal? Will the moisture within the wrapped bales migrate to the outside?

Second question: Is there anything I can do about it? I bought enough to last into the spring when it starts to warm up again. Would it help to take the plastic off or will that make it worse?

I bought seem off our neighbors that are wrapped dry hay in that weight. I have noticed a little bit of spoilage but not as bad you would see with a cover edge net wrapped bale.

I will feed mine before they go to grass next spring. When it gets warm is when you see spoilage
