For an apple tree you didnt do bad. We have apple orchards around here and when they prune they PRUNE. Like you did.
Next year the new growth should really sprout. Lots of fruit on the new growth too. But for fruit tree pruning, timing is everything. Read up on that, but I think your timing is good.
