mikado - 1/13/2019 12:28   But my caution is firsthand from 13. No, I did not travel the whole Midwest but had what I thought was a good grasp on a significant portion that had crappy conditions.....learned the hard way there were more than enough good acres to make up for what I saw.

There were guys in 2013 that saw lots of Prevent Plant and crappy corn in Northern Iowa and thought corn was going to go $10+

At the time we weren't raising enough corn to feed the hogs.    Summer of 2013 I was trying to buy corn off of a guy that we had been buying corn from for several years, I specifically remember a conversation I had with him after he got back from a trip to Des Moines.  Going east/southeast from "here" to Des Moines takes a guy through the heart of some of the best corn ground in Iowa and a whole lot of it never got planted in 2013.    After he got back he wouldn't sell another bushel, kept the rest of his 2012 corn crop past the 2013 harvest.

That trip cost him a lot of $'s.
