| When we were still running our R-50 and R-52, they had wider tires on them. After running in bean stubble a while, we started to get tire damage where they ran on the row. Duals work good in 30 inch rows and don't run directly on the cut stubble. So, duals are better as far as wear. We also have never had any problems in mud with duals and rear wheel drive. As a matter of fact, we've never been stuck and could always back out (knock on wood!).
The more expensive wide floaters will probably encounter more stubble damage and like mentioned, are spongy. I wouldn't want them if you have any hillsides, especially with 390 bushels above them. Since we've had duals, the combine is so much more stable. | |
