Surely with the technology now someone has a program that can lay over a field map and calculate how much seed you're wasting with overlap don't they? I could probably get a rough idea if I wanted to sit down for a long time and make my head hurt with math, but that's not much fun.

If you have odd shaped fields just do it. The ability to over drive into the end rows and put it down in end rows before planting save enough time and headache it’s worth it right there. The savings are good too.
