For those that have sons involved in your operation, when did you decide the time was right to let them take full control and make all the decisions? I have a neighbor who's in his low 70's and farms a pretty good size with most of his acres paid off. He's got 2 sons in their low 40's who are capable and the old man still makes 95% of the decisions. I honestly can't figure it out and think it's quite sad because he's not really giving them a fair crack at farming. The old man's dad had him farming fulltime and making a lot of the decisions in his low 20's so he's not really returning the favor. I also think his sons would be more profitable. Did you all have an "aha moment" where enough was enough and you told your sons the next year was all theirs... or did most of you have a gradual transitional changing of the guard phase? What do you all think of the old farmers like the one I described above and what would you tell them?
