When did you decide to pass the farm down?

I don't think you lived thru the 80's. Too many fathers around here tried to make room for family and some lost everything. Why do you think he owes them a crack at farming? Just because you are born into a farm family does not mean you are a farmer. A father does not owe his sons & daughters a job or a farm. It is great if the farm can be passed on, does not always work out.


Agree 100%---You need a succesion plan not kids deciding when you "turn over the reins" .....Been working on succesion for quite some time, not easy if more than 1 child......What really burns me is when I see kids of all ages trying to push there parents off the farm so they can "have it".......maybe if prices off land was not so high , so much money made last 10+ yrs. and all the modern equipment there would not be the same issues , as yrs. ago most kids working on mixed farm,milking,ect. could not wait to get away from the farm.......cash cropping is a pretty soft,easy job today
