Just to get some basics out of the way, make sure the wires are hooked up correctly for polarity (neutral in silver screw, black to brass to save your a $$), next make sure they are hooked up on the set of screws marked "line" on the back of the gfci. If those 2 things are fine do a voltage check and make sure that is ok. After that, I really do think know.
