Subject: Ultrasound and culling. Pulling bulls etc..

EC North Dakota
The biggest fight b/n my dad and I has always been culling cows.

I’ve pushed for pulling bulls and preg testing.

He says he’s better off leaving bulls in to get everyone bred, then dealing with late calves instead of none.

Even if I preg check, he wants to keep the opens and turn the bulls in with them.

I seem to disagree a lot.

Will someone take the time to explain to me the economics of this? Does he have a point for a commercial herd?

How does raising our own replacement and culling compare to just keeping the cow around?

I realize cull prices change and whatever but just in general.
