Secondhand cars are cheap here. They are so cheap, that most people with a car worth £1,000 won't bother changing a cam belt, they'll just run i until is snaps and get a new car. This is what £1,500 buys you https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?advertising-location=at_cars... I don;t know what the batteries will cost to replace nor do I know what the environment impact of them is. But, I'd bet that the after market will be able to repare them. The early adopters will almost certainly pay a premium, but once they become the norm, I'd expect the repair costs to be on par with an ICE car. Besides, very few people will repair major componants on cars here because it's just not worth it. When the current fleet gets scrapped, they get their fluids emptied then they're fed into a fragmenter which chews them up then all of the materials are seperated mostly recycled. The same will happen with electric cars. |
