I would say it depends on Petrol cost and Electric cost. Liquid fuel can fluxuate 30% a year right-that's a pretty big change. Electric varies a lot depending on where you live.

I have a couple friends with Teslas. I am impressed that they have put 40kish miles on and done literally nothing other than tires. Save money on oil changes (none), etc. There is that elephant in the room of a high $ battery wearing out-but I sure like the idea of driving a car for 2 years with no service other than 1 trip to tire shop.

You are right-they use a lot of power-if AlGore dream were to come true and poof everyone had an electric car overnight I suspect electric power demand and price would go up really quickly.

I expect to see more and more in the urban areas, where I live-with my driving habits (120-150 mile commute) I don't think I see one on my radar screen anytime soon.
