I do gunsmithing professionally (ie, for money).

Cold blueing is largely a waste of your time. It won't endure much in the way of handling.

I would recommend you get a tank which will fit the gun and you use Mark Lee Express Blue:

All you need is a tank of boiling hot distilled water. No salts are necessary. 

Hot salt blueing is NOT recommended on older (esp. double-barreled) shotguns. It will attack the soft solder on the rib(s).

Refinishing the stock: Depends on what kind of finish you want. If you can tell me more, I can give more advice.
