Faunsdale, AL
Cows can spit rumen magnets up with a cud for a few minutes after you put it down, but it's rare. Magnet quickly drops into the reticulum where it normally stays until it corrodes away.

The process of ruminating and spitting up cuds to chew does not usually get anything heavy like magnets and grain. It mostly gets some of the lighter longer fibers. As the cud is chewed, the cow's saliva mixes with it and carries a lot of bicarbonate back to the rumen to buffer the rumen fluid. This is the reason for the requirement for long fiber in the diet for good rumen health.
