North Central Illinois
Well it is very easy for you or I to sit here and say that. Most farmers feel like they work harder than anyone else. They think just about everyone else is lazy or on welfare. We get very high and mighty but are pretty sheepish when we make that walk to the mailbox for the government check. But that isn't welfare right? Honestly if I were in the shoes of a government employee I don't know what I would do. I suppose part time employment is one option but I also think there are other avenues to pursue. I think taking a part time job just for a few weeks is a little impractical and somewhat disingenuous to whoever you go to work for unless you are upfront with them that you will be quitting as soon as the shutdown is over. Another option unless their credit absolutely horrible is to go to their bank and negotiate a short term loan to pay expenses during the shutdown.
