Most likely not NAT approved, but I built a pad out of junk RR ties (and tie pieces) staggered every row so the ends of the ties didn't line up. Put the bad sides of the ties down on the dirt and attached treated 2x6s to the ends of the ties with construction screws to keep them from shifting. That was many years ago and it's still a pretty level and solid platform. A lot easier to tear out than concrete is if you change your mind about where you decided to put it too.
