Edit to add, just remember that when you cut a starter, you can use the other side to end with. Once I got going, that dictated how long the starter piece would be. I have some that are the same length, but would look back a few rows to make sure the seams were at least 7" apart so you couldn't see any patterns.
Also, the instructions tell you to grab out of 2-3 boxes randomly so you don't have 2 of the same design next to each other. What I found is that some boxes had mostly one design so I was still getting the same pieces close to each other. My fix was to unpack a bunch of boxes and sort per design, then choose each piece depending on what was used prior in the floor. I had my girlfriend do that since she was the one nit picking. I think there was 7 different designs in my flooring.
