Southern MD
My dad use to be all 22” but we switched to 30” corn (15” and 22” beans) when our old 22” corn head wore out and I started spraying. I hated spraying 22” corn. We still have the 1780 8r 22” planter and a 6/11 1780. We still plant about 1/2 our beans with the 22” planter so we can start while planting corn and run two when we have the man power. Yields are basically the same. I think the 22” always look better and always seemed be a little shorter so less lodging. Whenever we plant milo we also use the 22” planter. Spraying would be the only thing. But I’ve gotten off the row before on 22” beans and never really see it when the combine rolls. Corn and milo is a different story. I always thought a 30’ twin row planter would be ideal besides maintenance plant 30” corn then twin row beans.
