How big a $$ transaction?
If not big I would just have a piece of paper listing the two items and both you sign you are swapping and forget the rest. Not the "proper" way maybe but simple.
If large item, you probably would have capital gains on your item not subject to SS on the check you get and could Sect 179 your check amount.
