Subject: RE: Joining associations

Selling registered seedstock being a member of our national breed association is required to register cattle. Also a member of our state breed association which more than pays for the cost of dues with the benefits we get from it. You get a listing in the state directory that is published every 2 years although we still buy a full page ad on top of that. Of the 7500 copies of that directory around 6300 are direct mailed to in state cow/calf producers so that's a lot of potential eyeballs your ad will be seen by for a pretty reasonable cost. You can also post sale offerings and a link to your website on the state association website as a due paying member and for $50 a year for membership that's a pretty good deal for the potential exposure you get.

Just depends on what kind of operation you run if those memberships can be of valuable to you. You obviously need to be a member to "have a voice" within it. Seedstock producers probably have the most to gain by being members of various associations as they are always marketing bulls and females and the more eyeballs they can market their cattle to further their advertising dollars can be stretched.
