Monett Missouri
A lot of grazers abuse fescue here. Year round grazing it to the dirt. Heavy stocking during wet months. Little or no fertilizer and no weed control. I would hate to be without it. We have learned to deal with the toxic nature of it. Also have killed old stands and replaced with less toxic varieties. Having other grasses to feed in the winter helps to dilute the effects of fescue foot. No other grasses I grow produce the tonnage of grazing or harvested forage as fescue. Especially when considering the amount of fertilizer used. Bermuda comes close on harvested forage but takes a lot more nitrogen. Missouri wouldn’t be the feeder calf producer without fescue.
