The molluscs feed on algae and during digestion retain intact chloroplasts from the algae and then transport them to where they need them. A lot of molluscs use their diet/prey to their advantage. One classic one are aeolid nudibranchs that use intact stinging cells from jellyfish, anemones, corals, etc. to protect themselves .... https://ocean.si.edu/ocean-life/invertebrates/how-sea-slugs-steal-de... . Part of my research was to study defenses of dorid nudibranchs which used their diet(sponges and other sessile invertebrates) to ingest toxic chemicals and use them for their own defense. One particular genus Phyllidia would take on toxic sponge metabolites and use them as unchanged or metabolically transformed toxins that had similarity to the chemicals released at Bhopal...... http://slugsite.us/bow/hov99_2.htm . Marine molluscs are incredibly interesting invertebrates.
