Southwest Iowa | We are in a predicament this winter. We were left with no choice but to winter 120 spring cows on just 60 acres of grass. Needless to say it has turned into a complete mess out there with all the mud. Is it best to unroll hay in the same general location to keep from tearing up the remainder of the pasture even if it kills out the seeding in that one spot? Or would you still try to feed in a new cleanish area each day and have the whole 60 acres somewhat mudded up? I just cringe when the cows are eating unrolled hay in pure mud/manure. If it would just freeze everything would be fine. Unrolling hay is about the only way of feeding a big group for us currently. Supplemented with corn from cake feeder but it’s too muddy for the pickup and cake feeder to get out there. | |
