2 test plots about 8 hybrids each.  Split planter with a tried and true hybrid on one side of the planter and a new promising hybrid that did well in the small plot on the other side of the planter.  Its not perfect, but we get a good idea what works, but sometimes weird things happen.  In 2018 a hybrid that had been a good performer for over 5 years was down 10% compared to everything else.  We had never seen it get beat so consistently and if it looked like that the first year we tried it I probably wouldn't have planted it.
