Eastern NC | We set up groups in both the spring and fall. $1500 for a live calf at 180 days old, and they pay 100% of implant cost from the vet.
The custom ET calves are all subject to the same protocol as my own calves (natural and ET), double vaccinate, run creep from 1st calf being 30 days old and so forth.
In my experience, club calf genetics aren’t to blame for high birth weights, cow management during the last 60 days in much more influential.
That all being said, if a cow can’t have a 90-100 pound calf, asta la vista, not much use for her in my mind, all relative to cow size of course.
In reference to the above comment, it Brings up a whole different argument on cow size, but often times it seems like people imagine that calving clubbies if like calving a Belgian blue. Feed anything enough corn silage for long enough and wham bam you’re going to have a heavier calf.
