I bought a small safe this spring. Check for a small switch on the inside of the door, around the perimeter. At least on the safe I purchased that switch/button must be depressed ( it normally is when the door is closed) in order for the locking mechanism to open up. . Look along the top inside edge of the door, probably directly above where the keypad mounts.
