Subject: Hoof rot...

Granville County, NC
As we continue to progress through fall winter...here in the east we have had so much rain and mud it is unbelievable. Setting records for precipitation, and mud a foot deep in many places...I have never seen it like this before. Now, I always say, better than drought...but it is getting harder and harder as the rain keeps coming. It has been very mild, which is nice...just biblical wet.

I am having issues with hoof rot I believe. Gonna have the vet out to take a look. My question...I have no "high ground" to move these cattle to...no matter where they would be they would be in mud. Any suggestions on what I can do to prevent more animals from getting hoof rot? Is anyone else in my neck of the woods dealing with this? My big issue is here...where there are no vets and no competition, the guy I have come out will charge $400 to drive out and look at a few head and treat. Is there anything I can do myself to save some money?

Thanks all!!!!!! Happy New Year.
