An option for some is that the family can share responsibilities and look after parents for quite some time if health allows it at home as used to happen .......it certainly has its issues

That is a good idea if everybody wants to help. My MIL lived with us for 3 years . My wife has 3 siblings . All we heard was whining and complaining about having to stay at our house for 24 hours one day a month so we could have a little break .


That's a case where fair and equal in a will aren't the same. If one child does all the long term care in home, it's reasonable that they be given a bigger share of the estate. This needs to be done arranged in advance of the parent losing their ability to make decisions though.


Too bad that didnt happen in our family. Dad now has to split it right down the middle with his pothead sister who's kids couldnt even write a thank you card for Christmas gifts, let alone call, or God forbid, stop by for a visit.
