Western Wisconsin | I would agree with Poe farmer and do whatever it takes to get inside feeding. Your layout does have the bonus that you don't have to get cattle across the feed lane, but a few strategically placed gates can solve that. I would do at least 1', maybe 2' walls under all your permanent fencing on the inside to make cleaning easier, lots less posts to clean around. I also like the waterers in the feed alley to keep the splash water in the soupy manure instead of making soup out of bedding.
Now, we only have 2 people on a daily basis, maybe 3 on special occasions, so we are short of labor and that is the reason for my next thoughts. I would rather have more, smaller pens to make moving the cattle a little easier. Sometimes it's hard getting 13 head out of a 20'x20' pen thru a 10' gate into the alley, and sometimes it's impossible for one person to get them out of the 20'x40' pens with a 12' gate.
