Just a stocking question , if onerstock a pasture

Usually do 2 A per cow . If I go to 1 acre per and feed

Some good hay , will they just tear up the pasture first and than go for hay ? I usually am careful not to put too many in pasture at one time but have some major fences to replace so it would be great to do it when other is empty

Thanks

On fresh growth I've found that it almost impossible to convince a cow to come and eat some hay- - - -she doesn't seem to care how good the hay is - - - if she sees 1 blade of grass she's running over there to clip it.

I would suggest keeping them tightly confined and on the hay and getting your fences fixed.
Now if you're planning on turning out the bulls in 2 weeks after you start all this and all your calves are on the ground - - - well they you're going to have to feed for all of that - - - and that's more interesting.

Maybe its time to go to that intensively managed grazing (only enough ground for the cows for 1 day of grazing - - - then back to the feeding area for 1 day - - - then back to a different little patch for 1 day - - - repeat and get those fences done).
